Practising Online.
Helpful tips & guidance for practising online:
When you join, your camera won’t be showing to begin with, so we encourage you to click the ‘start video’ button. That way the teacher and others can see you and you can interact, which is an important part of our online classes (bed hair and pyjamas are welcome). You are also welcome to switch the camera off if you prefer.
You’ll be muted upon entry; please stay muted otherwise it is difficult for others to hear the teacher’s instructions.
If you have an injury please state this on your intake form and arrive in the Zoom room 10 minutes early to tell your teacher about it through the private chat function.
If you are pregnant and have never practised yoga before, it’s best you attend a pregnancy yoga class or a workshop specifically for pregnant women.
Clear the space as best you can, moving furniture to the side so that you have room to practice safely.
Practising yoga at home often means more distractions. It helps to turn off your phone notifications and separate yourself from the rest of the world as best you can (we’ve noticed pets love to join in and we don’t mind if you don’t).
It’s great if you have yoga props like a brick, block or strap, but don’t worry if you don’t. Improvise with a book, blankets, a belt and pillows.
How to access online classes using Zoom:
When you book your class you will be sent the online class zoom link within the confirmation email.
You do not need a Zoom account to access the class. Anyone can join a meeting using the Zoom mobile apps or desktop applications for Windows and Mac by clicking the link! I suggest that for your first class or time accessing Zoom, to test the link to ensure you connect correctly and have downloaded the most up to date software.
Once you click the link you will then be prompted to download the software (or join meeting if you already have it!)
On the day of the class, click the link and you will be taken to the class waiting room. I will let you in from15 minutes before the start of class.
When you connect on the link, follow the guided steps:
You will be prompted to test your speaker and microphone. Make sure you take plenty of time to do this so you can eliminate any issues before the class.
In Zoom, you will have the option to have your video on/off and the audio on/off.
It is a good idea to have a good look at zoom before your first class so you can familiarise yourself with functionality.
I suggest that you switch your view to speaker view or pin my screen so that you can see me clearly on the screen.
Please also add your name to your Zoom profile.
Zoom trouble shooting tips:
Make sure you are prepared by downloading Zoom prior to the session starting and log in with good time - you can then leave your computer until the session starts knowing you are prepared.
Make sure you have the newest version of Zoom installed.
You do not need a password for our classes. If it comes up asking for a password it may have logged into your Zoom account so log out and then use the link above - the password is embedded in the link already.
We think issues may also be caused when logging in through more than one device (e.g. phone and laptop) so try and keep to one device in the first instance. If you are having issues logging on through just one one device then try and see what happens if you log in through a different one to see if that works.
If you are still having difficulties, delete the zoom app and reinstall and then use the link.
If none of this is working please do email hello@alexandrakoumis.com and we will do our best to get you access.
